Second half of Turkish football league resumes

The Turkish Super Lig continues where it left off this weekend after a 24-day winter break.

Turkish football lovers can rejoice as the nation’s top flight will resume this weekend.

Besiktas will play against Akhisarspor on Friday to kick off the second half of the 2018/2019 season of the Turkish Super Lig.

Turkey’s top flight has been experiencing something unprecedented this season as Istanbul trio Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenerbahce are far from their best.

Istanbul Basaksehir are the league leaders with 35 points, while four other teams — Trabzonspor, Malatyaspor, Kasimpasa and Galatasaray — follow with 29 points each. Besiktas are in 7th place with 26 points.

The league leaders Basaksehir will play against Trabzonspor away in what should be a tricky game on Sunday.

Galatasaray will face Ankaragucu at home on Saturday while Fenerbahce will travel to line up against Bursaspor on Monday.

Fenerbahce are going through some terrible times, finding them selves in the relegation zone. The Yellow Canaries have are in 17th place with just 16 points — 19 away from the top of the league.

The transfer window will be remain open until January 31 as clubs in Turkey continue to look for deals to help them achieve their objectives in the second half of the season. Unsurprisingly, it has been a quiet January due to the financial hardships Turkish clubs have faced this past year due to the weak Turkish Lira, high levels of debt and Financial Fair Play obligations.
