Ankaragucu forward Dever Orgill in love with Turkey

The Jamaican international has compared his native homeland to Turkey and says there are many similarities.

Ankaragucu forward Dever Orgill has spoken positively of his move to the Super Lig after signing for the capital based club from Austria’s Wolfsberger in January.

“I have a good environment here. The place is a little bit like Jamaica. The people, weather and climate is very beautiful. The people are very friendly. Ankaragucu is a big club. It’s one of Turkey’s oldest clubs. That’s why it’s an honor for me to play here. It’s nice for me to live in Turkey. I am happy to be here,” he explained.

Dever said he is hoping the club will stay up come the end of the season and avoid relegation.

“I did not set any targets for myself. My goal is to keep Ankaragucu in the league. I will do whatever I can to help the team. The goals will come eventually. I think I will score between 7 and 10 goals. But this number has no importance. Even if I don’t score these goals, I hope the team stays up,” he said.

The Jamaican footballer revealed he did not know much about Turkish football prior to his transfer last month and his idol who played in Turkey, Luton Shelton, inspired him to do the same.

“When I started playing in Finland, Jamaican Luton Shelton transferred to Karabukspor. Shelton is my idol. I read about him regularly. He is a player who broke records in Jamaica.

“I did not follow the league but I knew the names of clubs like Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Kasimpasa. I had heard their names. Before coming here, I started to learn more. I wanted to come here when I was playing in Finland. I succeeded in making that happen and my heart is now in the Turkish league,” he explained.

The 28-year-old has scored 1 goal in 3 appearances for Ankaragucu since his arrival.
