Kasimpasa coach baffled by losing streak

Mustafa Denizli can’t seem to find a way to end Kasimpasa’s losing streak.

Kasimpasa head coach Mustafa Denizli was at a loss for words when asked about his team’s ongoing losing streak.

The Istanbul club have lost seven consecutive games, stretching back to January 28.

Since selling their top scorer Mbaye Diagne to city rivals Galatasaray last month, the team have been unable to find the back of the net, scoring just 4 times in their last 7 outings.

After watching his team crash out of the Turkish Cup at the hands of Akhisarspor on Thursday night, Denizli appeared troubled by the club’s form.

“The cup was our second important target. Just six, seven weeks ago we were the fastest scoring team in the league. But now, we have a hard time scoring.

“We have a group which is affected by this. There is nothing to say. It would be wrong to say we did not want to advance to the next game. But we made a lot of mistakes. We will fix our ways. Tomorrow we will an answer. We have to,” he said after the game.

The experienced coach also said he has never experienced such a losing streak in his 30-year coaching career.

“The changes we made during the winter break did not bring us the contribution we wanted. We experienced the opposite.

“I have never experienced even half of the losing streak we are experiencing at the moment. It’s an image that hurts me. There’s a lot of sadness. In my 30-year career, I’have never experienced such a losing streak. It’s a very difficult situation. There is not much else to say,” he said as he struggled to explain his team’s run of bad luck.

Fans in attendance during Kasimpasa’s Turkish Cup loss to Akhisarspor on Thursday were heard calling for Denizli’s resignation while chanting former coach Kemal Ozdes’ name during the 90 minutes.
