Istanbul set for derby showdown

Istanbul set for derby showdown on Sunday evening

The bitter rivals, Fenerbahce & Galatasaray, will clash on Sunday evening.

Turkish football’s biggest rivalry is set to take place on Sunday evening when Fenerbahce host their arch-rivals Galatasaray in what is expected to be a tough battle for both sides.

Fenerbahce are gearing up for match that will see them trying to redeem whatever is left of a terrible season as they try to finish the remaining seven weeks with as many points as possible in order to avoid relegation.

The Yellow Canaries, despite their terrible performances this season, have history on their side; they have not lost to Galatasaray at home since December 1999.

Fenerbahce’s current coach, Ersun Yanal, also has a strong record at Ulker Stadium.

As Fenerbahce manager, Yanal has not lost once in any of the 23 games he has managed on home turf. His record is 18 wins and 5 draws.

Galatasaray, on the other hand, will be contesting the duel with a slightly weak squad as they will be without their two key central defenders; Marcao and Christian Luyindama who are both suspended due to red cards.

A sold-out crowd at Ulker Stadium and millions across the globe will be tuning in to see the spectacle that is the Intercontintental derby between Europe (Galatasaray) and Asia (Fenerbahce).
