Fenerbahce win, avoid relegation scare

Fenerbahce win, avoid relegation

The Yellow Canaries have guaranteed themselves a place in next season’s Super Lig.

Fenerbahce fans can rest assured knowing their team will take part in the 2019-2020 season of the Turkish Super Lig after the club’s 2-1 victory against Akhisarspor on Saturday guaranteed them the necessary points to avoid the drop.

The team hosted Akhisarspor, who themselves were fighting for survival, at Ulker Stadium and showed they are still a powerhouse despite their troubled season.

Veteran striker Roberto Soldado put the home side 1-0 ahead in the 28th minute with a well-struck goal inside the penalty area.

Winger Nabil Dirar doubled their lead just two minutes later with a fierce shot from near the edge of the penalty box.

Soldado had the chance to increase their lead after Fener were awarded a penalty kick but the Akhisarspor goalkeeper managed to pull off an impressive diving save.

Akhisarspor scored just before the half-time break to make it 2-1.

Despite their persistence in the second-half, Akigo failed to turn things around and ended up losing the game 2-1 which meant they have become the first team to be relegated from the Super Lig this season.

With their crucial victory, Fenerbahce are now 10th with 40 points, which means they have avoided relegation to the second-division.

The Yellow Canaries could still climb higher up the table if results go their way in the final two weeks of the season.
