Mathieu Valbuena to leave Fenerbahce for Olympiakos

The veteran French midfielder is closing in on a move to the Greek powerhouse.

Fenerbahce are set to lose their creative midfielder Mathieu Valbuena to neighbouring Greek giants Olympiakos, according to the Greek club’s president, Evangelos Marinakis.

The wealthy businessman spoke to a local Greek radio station, Parapolitic FM, where he confirmed the soon-to-be transfer.

“When the time comes, we will announce it. Valbuena will be of great benefit to Olympiakos. We can say that we transferred a very good player. The agreement is very close at the moment. There are a lot of players on our list, not just one,” Marinakis revealed.

Fenerbahce are reported to be keen on holding on to their midfielder and have offered him a two-year deal worth €3.4 million, but the Frenchman sees his future away from Istanbul, according to reports.

Valbuena has been one of Fener’s better performing players this season, having made 31 appearances during which he made 8 assists.
