Eto'o signs for Konyaspor from Antalyaspor

African World Player of the Year Samuel Eto’o has moved to Konyaspor for a 2.5-year deal.

Samuel Eto’o, who is well known for his goal-scoring instinct, had left Antalyaspor by mutual consent and was reported to be wanted by several Turkish clubs including Galatasaray and Besiktas.

36-year-old Eto’o had arrived by private plane in Konya and was given a hero’s welcome at the local airport. The forward was mobbed by fans who chanted his name as he made his way through the arrivals area of the airport.

Konyaspor president Fatih Yilmaz said the club were looking to make a statement by signing such an accomplished and well known player.

His new team are currently at the bottom half of the table fighting to stay out of the relegation zone while his previous club, Antalyaspor, are rumoured to be having severe financial difficulties.

The Cameroonian is his country’s all-time goalscorer with 54 goals in 118 appearances.
