Lucescu: I trust the potential of Turkish players

Lucescu speaks about Turkish football players

Mircea Lucescu, the Turkish national team manager, spoke of his commitment to the team as well as the trust he has in Turkish players.

Since the beginning of the season, Mircea Lucescu has been scouting the lower leagues of Turkish football for potential talent he can call up to the national team. The Romanian manager spoke of the optimism he has for future players.

“I think it’s been very good and useful. Unfortunately today, weather conditions prevented me from seeing better quality football. But ultimately our goal has been to see the level of the players in Spor Toto 1.Lig and 2.Lig. It’s a great opportunity to compare the difference of the level of the players with our current national players. We’ve seen potential. We’ve scouted many players and watched many matches. We followed the clubs and the players. There are a lot of players from the West. This is the effect of not having too many clubs in the league. But we will continue to scout because I trust the potential of Turkish football players. We will get something out of here.”, Lucescu said of his experience so far.

The 72-year-old was appointed in charge of the Turkish national team in August of 2017 however he hasn’t been much successful. During the 2018 World Cup qualifying campgain, he managed just one win and ultimately failed to qualify for this summer’s tournament.
