Valbuena: We have the power to be champions

French playmaker Mathieu Valbuena spoke to Fenerbahce’s magazine editors about the tight title-race and gave his opinion on the matter.
Fenerbahce’s French playmaker Valbuena had an exclusive interview with the club’s magazine editors earlier during the day. “The nights we win matches are the happiest nights for me. I’m a competitor and a fighter. To be successful on the pitch, I give it my all every time I go out there.”, said the player.
When asked about his team’s loss to Besiktas recently he said; “Until this past weekend, we were undefeated in 15 Super Lig matches, 21 if you include the Turkish Cup games. When we win, it encourages us. The loss to Besiktas shouldn’t affect us. We know our aim. Fenerbahce haven’t been champions for the past three season and now it’s needed. To have the 4 stars on our shirt is a very important accomplishment for us. We want to win both, the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Super Lig. We are striving to achieve these goals and we have the power to be champions.”
The 33-year-old also shared his thoughts on the French national team and his chance of a call-up;
“For me to return to the national team, it seems difficult. There is a new talented generation of players coming up. I did a lot for the French national team and it has always been a source of pride for me to wear that uniform. I know very well what it means to wear the uniform of your own country. My preference now is to focus on Fenerbahce and with this uniform win the championship.”
He also expressed his surprise at the affection of Fenerbahce fans.
“There is greater passion at Fenerbahce. I’ve played in some beautiful atmospheres throughout my career but here it’s on another level. Fenerbahce has the best fan atmosphere I’ve ever seen in my career.”
