Besiktas file complaint against Fenerbahce players

Besiktas have filed an official complaint with the disciplinary branch of the Turkish Football Federation.

The Black Eagles have lodged a complaint with the Turkish Football Federation, accusing Fenerbahce’s Mehmet Ekici and Josef de Souza of violent conduct during the Turkish Cup clash which took place last week.

Besiktas’s legal team gave photographic evidence of the incidents, the first of which took place in the 52nd minute, where Ricardo Quaresma was sent off for hitting Josef de Souza. Replays and photographs have shown de Souza to stick his right hand’s index finger into the eye of Quaresma yet he was not given any card or punishment for his actions. Besiktas stated in the complaint that they feel the referee was biased and de Souza should also have been sent off.

The second incident involved Mehmet Ekici, who was given just a yellow card when he pushed Besiktas central defender Pepe, who fell to the ground and slid a distance of 5 meters due to the force of the push. Ekici was shown to have played a role in instigating the scuffle which took place yet he was not shown a red card for his involvement in the scuffles.

Sports pundits and journalists from all around Turkey have been discussing the heated clash continuously on their platforms and the general consensus has been that the referee was more lenient with Fenerbahce’s players who deserved to face the same punishment.

The committee’s decision is expected by the end of the week.
