FIFA impose transfer ban on Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor hit with a transfer ban by FIFA

Trabzonspor have been hit with a transfer ban by FIFA after the organization found the Turkish Super Lig side guilty of financial irregularities.

The Black Sea Storm, who have been struggling financially and on the pitch, have had a transfer ban imposed on them today by FIFA, football’s ruling authority. The decision to ban the Turkish side was due to them underpaying Slovakian club Trencin for the transfer of Matus Bero back in 2016. The 22-year-old signed for Trabzonspor for a transfer fee of €2.5 million.

The club were reported to FIFA for underpaying the Slovakian club €250,000, however.

Trabzonspor quickly released a statement on their website clarifying their intentions in response to the ban;

“In the article sent by FIFA to our club today, we have been informed that a transfer ban has been introduced to be applied in the first transfer period. The related issue of the debt has been paid and the neccessary initiatives have been initiatied to correct this situation arising from the fact the other party has not reported the payment to FIFA.”

The ban is set to take place during the 2018 summer transfer window however Trabzonspor will appeal the decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
