Galatasaray remain undefeated at home

The Lions continued their fine form as they came back from behind to win 2-1 against relegation battlers Konyaspor.

Galatasaray’s dominance at home continued tonight as they fought hard to come back from a tricky home fixture against relegation battlers Konyaspor.

The match didn’t start well for Galatasaray when in the 2nd minute Konyaspor’s defender Moke scored from inside the box after he got on the end of a cross from his teammate Volkan Sen. Galatasaray pumped up the pressure and won themselves a penalty in the 21st minute however the Super Lig’s top goalscorer of the season Bafetimbi Gomis failed to convert from the penalty spot.

Gomis did manage to make amends by getting the equalizer eventually in the 69th minute of the match with a fine header from close range.

It came down to the final minutes as Fatih Terim’s men pushed on for the winner. Their persistence was rewarded in the 86th minute when subsitute Sinan Gumus scored a beautiful volley inside the box from a Yuto Nagatomo cross.

Tonight’s win means Galatasaray remain undefeated at home for 15 Turkish Super Lig games, stretching back to last season. That figure rises to 19 if one were to include all competitions (Turkish Cup and Europa League qualifiers for 2017-18). The Turkish Super Lig continues to be the tightest title race in Europe this season as just three points separate the top 3 teams.

The Lions have moved into the first place with tonight’s win and are 3 points clear of second-placed Istanbul Basaksehir.
