Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil breaks assists record with 50 assists

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil made history today after becoming the fastest player in English Premier League history to reach 50 assists during his team’s 3-0 win against Watford.

German international Mesut Ozil set the new record today when he assisted his teammate Shkodran Mustafi’s goal in the 8th minute of the encounter tallying up 50 assists in 141 matches since his move to Arsenal. Mustafi’s goal, coincidentally, was Arsenal’s 1,000th in the English Premier League.

The previous best was 50 assists in 143 appearances, set by French legend Eric Cantona during the 1990s when he played for Leeds and Manchester United.

Ozil has been Arsenal’s best playmaker ever since he signed for them, having been involved in the most amount of attacks from open play for the club.
