UEFA to make G.Saray FFP decision in June

Galatasaray to wait until June to hear from UEFA regarding FFP

Galatasaray will have to wait until June to find out if they face any sanctions from UEFA regarding their Financial Fair Play (FFP) obligations.

A decision by European football’s governing body on the financial fair play situation of Istanbul’s Galatasaray will “likely” be announced in June, a UEFA official has said.

“There are several UEFA Club Financial Control Body [CFCB] meetings coming up in April and May,” the UEFA press officer said in an email to state-run Anadolu Agency on April 5.

A UEFA decision on Galatasaray is “likely to be communicated in June,” he said.

On March 9, Turkey’s Galatasaray club met UEFA officials in Nyon, Switzerland, to defend that its economic situation is in accordance with financial fair play rules.

Following a three-hour meeting with UEFA officials, Galatasaray President Mustafa Cengiz told reporters: “We made a 50-page presentation and UEFA asked us some questions. We have explained our realistic plan for the next three years.”

“We made three different presentations and the UEFA has paid attention to these,” Cengiz added.

Galatasaray already missed the European competition during the 2016-17 season for violating financial fair play rules and is fighting for the domestic league title this year, which could put it on the list of teams to attend the Champions League.

The 57-point Turkish Super League leader will visit Ankara’s Gençlerbirligi on April 9 in the closing game of week 28.
