Karabukspor first team to be relegated from Super Lig

Karabukspor relegated from the Turkish Super Lig

Bottom-placed Karabukspor said goodbye to the Turkish Super Lig for the 4th time in their 49-year history.

Karabukspor became the first team to be relegated from the Turkish Super Lig this season. With only 12 points after 28 matches so far, Karabukspor have been unable to avoid relegation from Turkey’s top flight.

Founded 49 years ago by iron and steel workers, the club has been relegated from the Turkish Super Lig for the fourth time.

The club first participated in Turkey’s top flight back in 1993/94. They were relegated in the same season.

After winning promotion back to the top division in 1996/1997, the club was relegated for the second time two seasons later, in 1998/1999. The club’s third spell in the Turkish top division came in 2010/2011. They were relegated once again in 2014/2015.

They achieved promotion from Turkey’s second division, 1.Lig, in 2016/2017, however, they find themselves in a similar situation once again having failed to avoid the drop this season.

Out of all the other teams this season, they have the most losses (22), have conceded the most goals (65 goal) and have scored the least amount of goals (19 goals). With 6 more matches left to play, those statistics could change.

They suffered the league’s heaviest defeat when they lost 7-0 to Galatasaray have the longest streak of consecutive losses; 11 matches lost.
