West Brom appoint Fenerbahce’s sporting director

English Premier League side West Brom have hired Italian sporting director Giuliano Terraneo as a technical consultant.

West Brom have announced the appointment of Italian sporting director Giuliano Terraneo as technical consultant. The experienced Italian was the sporting director at Fenerbahce up until the move and was responsible for bringing in a number of players to the Istanbul side such as Robin van Persie and Nani.

Terraneo will initially join the English club for six months, due to the club’s current situation – West Brom are at the bottom of the table in 20th place, with relegation a very real possibility.

The 64-year-old has held similar roles at Monza, Lazio and Inter prior to moving abroad.

“I am pleased to be able to accept the opportunity to help the club and its owners in the work ahead. West Bromwich Albion is a club with its own personality and it is important that everyone we recruit wants to work to that.” said the Italian.

The move comes after West Brom fired their technical director Nick Hammond on Thursday.

Reports in Turkey are suggesting Terraneo will use his influence to try and bring Fenerbahce’s midfielder Josef de Souza to West Brom for around €17 million this summer.
