FIFA lifts Trabzonspor transfer ban

FIFA lift Trabzonspor ban

Trabzonspor fans can breathe easier knowing their club has had its transfer ban removed by FIFA.

Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor’s management have announced the transfer ban imposed on the club by FIFA last month has been lifted following a succesful appeal lodged by the club.

Football’s ruling authority, FIFA, handed down a transfer ban to the club last month which meant they would not be allowed to register any new players during the summer transfer window. The reason for the ban was due to Trabzonspor failing to pay the remainder of a transfer fee to AS Trencin for Slovakian midfielder Matus Bero.

“As a result of non-payment to AS Trencin within 30 days, Trabzonspor are banned from registering any new players — either nationally or internationally — for the entirety of the next registration period,” FIFA had said in a statement.

This was not the case, however, after further investigation revealed that AS Trencin had in fact received the outstanding transfer fee and had failed to inform FIFA about it.

The Turkish side signed Bero from AS Trencin for €2.5 million in 2016.
