Former Liverpool assistant linked Zelko Buvac with Fenerbahce job

Zeljko Buvac is heavily linked with taking over the reigns at Fenerbahce.

Former Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac has allegedly verbally agreed to take charge of Super Lig powerhouse Fenerbahce.

He stepped down from his role as No.2 to Jurgen Klopp on the eve of the club’s Champions League semi-final clash with Roma last year.

The Bosnian has been Klopp’s trusted right-hand man dating back to their time together at Mainz but a split is on the cards this summer.

It was claimed yesterday the 56-year-old would be leaving Anfield to take the top job at Fenerbahce.

But Bosnian TV reporter Haris Mrkonja claims a deal is by no means done yet.

He’s spoken to colleagues at Turkish outlet Sporx and issued an update on the situation via Twitter.

He posted this morning: “#Fenerbahçe agreed with #buvac on terms but they have been discussing with some other coaches. There is nothing official and it seems that Buvac is not target number one.

“This is what @sporx colleagues tell me.”

The 56-year-old left his post at Liverpool in late April for ‘personal reasons’ until the end of the season, but was not expected to return.
