Volkan Demirel extends Fenerbahce contract

The experienced goalkeeper signed a one-year contract extension today.

Volkan Demirel will continue to wear the Fenerbahce jersey next season after the club announced he signed a new deal today.

The 36-year-old has signaled his intention to retire with the Super Lig giants by extending his contract for another year.

“I want to thank everyone who helped me to sign this new contract. My president, my coach…Continuing here is the most important thing for me. I want to finish my career with this club,” the experienced number one said during the signing ceremony held at the club’s facilities.

UEFA also shared the news on their official Twitter account with a tribute to the veteran goalkeeper.

The long-time servant moved to the Yellow Canaries from Kartalspor in 2002 and has been at the club ever since. In the 16 seasons he has played for the Istanbul club he has made 509 appearances.

After Mujdat Yetkiner (570 appearances), he is the longest serving player of the club and is second in the total number of appearances for Fenerbahce.
