Jurgen Klopp defends German stars Ozil & Gundogan

Liverpool boss Klopp calls the hate directer towards the players “nonsense”.

The 2018 World Cup is now over, Germany have had a few weeks to lick their wounds, however the conversation around Mesut Ozil and Ilkay Gundogan still hasn’t subsided. Jurgen Klopp, the experienced German coach, has defended the pair after they became the target of vicious attacks by the German press.

The Arsenal and Man City stars are still under fire from some quarters of the German public. That’s because the footballers met with Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan before the World Cup.

Some are now calling for Ozil and Gundogan to be dropped fro the national team.

Yet, for Liverpool’s charismatic German boss Jurgen Klopp, the hate directed at the Arsenal and Man City stars is unfounded.

Klopp, speaking to Sport Bild, has stuck up for Ozil and Gundogan. The Liverpool manager said:

“Complete nonsense. The intelligent people of this country demand tolerance. And the others should shut up and not question the boys.”

“Older, more experienced people should have helped them there. We should not forget that the two of them have Turkish roots even though they grew up here in Germany. But it is the same as always: the one who cries the loudest is the one heard the most. But that’s never been my thing.”
