Fenerbahce, Galatasaray stunned in Super Lig defeats

Fenerbahce, Galatasaray lost points

Both Istanbul clubs lost points this weekend.

Super Lig giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray lost points on Saturday evening in the fourth week of the 2018/2019 Turkish Super Lig.

The match between Fenerbahce and Kayserispor at Ulker Stadium in Istanbul saw the Phillip Cocu’s men defeated 2-3 with pundits critical of his tactical setup.

The hosts, Fenerbahce, were leading 1-0 after Andre Ayew scored the first goal of the evening in the 13th minute of the first half. However, Kayserispor managed to equalize in the 52nd minute thanks to midfielder Bernard Mensah to make it 1-1.

Algerian star Islam Slimani scored the second goal for Fenerbahce in the 57th minute with a fine strike. This was his first goal for his new club. But Kayserispor brought the score to 2-2 when Fenerbahce’s Martin Skrtel scored an own goal in the 61st minute.

Fener were unable to hold on for the draw, however, as the guest team sealed the win and the 3 points after Tjaronn Chery scored the third goal in the 69th minute.

Later in the evening, the first derby of the season saw Trabzonspor host Galatasaray at Medical Park Stadium in the northern Trabzon province where they shocked The Lions with a devastating 4-0 defeat.

Trabzonspor’s first goal came early in the 3rd minute from Nigerian international Ogenyi Onazi.

Anthony Nwakaeme scored the next two goals for his team in the 25th and 45+2 minutes, respectively.

The fourth goal came by late substitute Caleb Ekuban in the 90+2 minute.

Younes Belhanda added to Galatasaray’s misery after he received a red card in the 30th minute, leaving his team a man down for the rest of the game.

In the other matches of the fourth week, Konyaspor defeated Malatyaspor 1-0, Alanyaspor edged out Goztepe 1-0, while Akhisarspor drew with Sivasspor 1-1.
