Galatasaray address Anthony MOdeste rumours

The Lions failed to sign an experienced striker on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

Galatasaray have released a short statement on their social media platform to address the rumours regarding the transfer of French striker Anthony Modeste.

After selling last season’s top scorer Bafetimbi Gomis to Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal for €6 million, the Super Lig champions are in dire need of a reliable striker.

They were linked with a number of forwards, including Andreas Cornelius and Vagner Love, who they made an offer to sign but were put off by the Brazilian’s contract demands.

Recently released from China Super League club Tianjin Quanjian, Anthony Modeste was in talks to join Cim Bom on the final day of the transfer window, August 31st.

However, due to a legal dispute between the player and Chinese club regarding the termination fee, Galatasaray were put off from completing the transfer.

During the week, Modeste’s agent, Etienne Mendy, spoke to Radyospor and claimed his client is a free agent and there are no issues with his previous club that would cause a concern for Galatasaray.

“We have terminated the contract in accordance with FIFA conditions, so if there is a transfer of Modeste to Galatasaray, there is no issue of playing in the league,” he said.

Nevertheless, club supporters took to social media to urge the club’s management to sign the 30-year-old striker before the closing of the transfer window.

Earlier this morning, the club posted the following statement on their social media account.

“The transfer of professional football player Anthony Modeste is unfortunately not legally possible at this stage.”

Whether Galatasaray will continue their pursuit of the striker remains to be seen.
