Fenerbahce to sack Cocu - source

The Yellow Canaries are set to send Phillip Cocu packing after a dismal start to the season.

Fenerbahce’s Board of Directors gathered on Monday and unanimously have decided to sack Phillip Cocu, according to sources close to the club.

The club find themselves in an unprecedented position; in 15th place with 8 points, just a point shy from the relegation zone.

Supporters have been calling for Cocu’s dismissal for weeks now and it seems that club president Ali Koc has finally accepted the club can no longer wait for a turn around.

The board of directors held a meeting at length with lawyers who advised on how to proceed with regards to Cocu’s compensation since the Super Lig club is experiencing financial difficulties, like all Turkish clubs currently.

The Dutch coach will be compensated with one year’s worth of wages, according to the source.

His replacement is yet to be confirmed, however, fans have been chanting and calling for former coach Ersun Yanal to be re-appointed. Yanal was in charge of Fenerbahce back in 2013/2014, the last time they won the Super Lig title.

Another name linked with the dugout at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium is Tayfun Korkut, who was recently sacked by Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart.

Ali Koc is expected to make the announcement in the coming days, before the club’s next Super Lig fixture which is against Sivasspor on October 20.
