Koeman: I’m sorry we didn’t win

Koeman takes charge of Intercontinental Derby

The interim manager of the club took charge of his first game on Friday evening as Fenerbahce lined up against Galatasaray in the Intercontinental Derby.

Fenerbahce’s caretaker at the moment, Erwin Koeman, spoke to reporters after watching his side come back from two goals down to finish the game 2-2 at Turk Telekom Stadium against a Galatasaray side that is suffering an injury crisis.

In his first press conference as the club’s manager for the time being, he answered several questions about the game including his future with the club.

“Galatasaray had more possession in the first half but we created more chances. They managed to score from one set piece. I said before that we will be able to find space against them.

We maintained our discipline and game-plan until the final minute. They made it very difficult for us when they made it 2-0. However, we saw that Galatasaray pulled back. Then the ball was with us mostly. We started to play better after that. We deserved to make it 2-2. I think we should have even won the game. Towards the end we played very well, creating space and chances. I’m sorry we didn’t win.”

Regarding his future with the club and whether he will remain as manager for the long term, he said;

“I don’t know. We will see. The president asked me to prepare for this game. But I don’t know what will happen. The only person that can decide this is the president.”
