Fenerbahce eliminate Anderlecht

The Yellow Canaries continued to bounce back from Cocu’s disastrous tenure as they defeated Anderlecht 2-0 in Istanbul on Tuesday evening.

Fenerbahce put in a solid performance as they scored 2 goals in 3 minutes in the second half of their Europa League Group D fixture against Belgian giants Anderlecht on Tuesday.

Goals from midfielder Mathieu Valbuena and striker Michael Frey in the 71st and 74th minute, respectively, were enough to give the Turkish club the win after 90 minutes of European football.

The visiting side had more possession but failed to register a single shot on target against the home side.

Ten minutes before the end of the game, Anderlecht’s Zakaria Bakkali was sent off for a reckless challenge.

Their latest victory puts Fenerbahce closer to qualifying for the knockout rounds of the Europa League.

Fener’s win sees them move up to second place in Group D with 7 points while Anderlecht has mathematically been eliminated after 4 games with just 1 point even though they have two more games to play.
