Trabzonspor plan to offload stars in January

Burak Yilmaz wages crippling Trabzonspor

The Black Sea Storm are planning to sell their highest wage earner Burak Yilmaz during the January transfer period.

Trabzonspor have turned their focus to January. Club president Ahmet Agaoglu, who has made it clear to supporters that the club needs to sell players to balance the books, is planning to sell Burak Yilmaz next month even if it means transferring the star forward to one of their Super Lig rivals.

The club’s debt is over 1 billion Turkish Lira (€165 million) and are essentially strapped for cash.

Burak Yilmaz and Onur Kivrak, who have both been excluded from the first team for disciplinary reasons after acting out, are two of the club’s highest wage earners.

With bonuses, striker Yilmaz earns approximately €5 million per season whereas goalkeeper Onur pockets €2.5 miillion.

Trabzonspor cannot continue to pay such high wages, according to Agaoglu, and will entertain any offers that come their way. Besiktas and Galatasaray have both been linked with the experienced Burak Yilmaz.

Another player, midfielder Juraj Kucka could also be transfer listed due to his high wages.

The Slovakia international earns €2.25 million per season.

Speaking to reporters earlier this week, the club’s president said the days of high fee transfers are “over” and moving forward, the club will be conscious of how much they spend on new signings.
