Kasimpasa ace Mbaye Diagne sets league record

Kasimpasa striker Mbaye Diagne sets Turkish Super Lig record

The Senegalese ace etched his name in Turkish football history after scoring twice against Besiktas on Saturday.

Kasimpasa bagged themselves a solid home victory against Besiktas in their Super Lig duel on Saturday. The small Istanbul club took the three points with a 4-1 scoreline, of which two goals came from their key man Mbaye Diagne.

With the two goals of the night, the in-form striker took his tally to 20 goals this season, setting a new record in the Turkish Super Lig.

The 27-year-old has become the highest goal-scoring foreigner in the first half of a season in Turkey (17 games). The previous holder of the record was Mario Jardel, who scored 18 goals in the first 17 games of the Super Lig back in 2000.

While the night did end on a good note for Kasimpasa, Diagne managed to get himself an unnecessary yellow card for celebrating his goal in the 19th minute of the game, which was ruled offside to make matters worse.

The booking means he will now miss Kasimpasa’s next Super Lig fixture, which will be after the winter break.

Kasimpasa go into the break with 29 points which leaves them in second place for now.
