Robinho joins Basaksehir

The Brazilian striker has swapped Sivas for Istanbul.

Sivasspor striker Robinho has reached a deal with Super Lig leaders Istanbul Basaksehir.

According to Basaksehir club president Goksel Gumusdag, the former Manchester city and Real Madrid striker has signed a one-and-a-half year deal with his new club.

“Our club has reached an agreement with Sivasspor for the transfer of Robson De Souza (Robinho). I wish both clubs success,” the president’s statement read on the club’s official website.

“The clubs have struck a deal. Now, we are waiting for Robinho to come and sign the paperwork after which he will join the team in the training camp in Antalya,” Gumusdag explained further to reporters.

Sivasspor and Basaksehir presidents meet over Robinho deal.

This season, he scored 8 goals and made 2 assists in 16 appearances for Sivasspor.

Robinho will play alongside two other former Manchester City players — Emmanuel Adebayor and Gael Clichy.

The president also briefly mentioned their Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor, about whom much has been speculated.

“We still have a one and a half year contract with him. He is an important player for us. From time to time there are reports speculating but it’s not a matter of separation.”

Basaksehir are currently sitting at the top of the league with 35 points.
