Miha Zajc joins Fenerbahce from Empoli in €3m move

The Slovenian international has signed for the Yellow Canaries from Italian minnows Empoli.

Fenerbahce have made their fifth signing this month with the addition of Miha Zajc on transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old arrived at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul on Thursday afternoon and was whisked away to the club’s facilities to finalize the transfer before the registration window comes to an end.

The attacking midfielder has inked a four-and-a-half year contract with his new club. Fenerbahce are reported to have offered Empoli €3 million for the transfer as well as add-on fees if certain criteria are met. In addition to this, they’ve included Salih Ucan as part of the deal who has signed for Empoli on a permanent deal. Ucan had joined the Italian club on loan at the beginning of the season.

“Fenerbahce is one of Turkey’s biggest clubs. This is my first time in Istanbul. I know some players here in Turkey. I played in Italy and Slovenia with some of them. The Turkish league is a quality league and it has important clubs,” he said when asked about his first impressions upon arrival in the city.

He revealed he spoke to former Fenerbahce midfielder Salih Ucan, currently playing for Empoli, before making his decision to move to Fenerbahce.

“I spoke with Salih. He said choosing Fenerbahce would be the best thing for me,” he said.
