Besiktas chairman: No announcement before May 12

The appointment of a new coach to replace the outgoing Senol Gunes will be made after May 12.

Besiktas chairman Fikret Orman has put the search of a new manager on hold until after the club’s upcoming congress on May 12.

Orman spoke to reporters in Istanbul on Tuesday where he shed light on the club’s on-going search for a new manager to replace the out-going Senol Gunes, who is set to leave The Black Eagles at the end of the season to coach the Turkish national team.

“Besiktas has a congress on May 12. We explained that before. At the moment, the candidates are not exactly clear. Once this is clear, Besiktas will choose its management. After the management is chosen, the new administration will choose their own coach. We are continuing to work. But no one should expect anything from us before May 12.

What is important is stability at Besiktas. A lot of things were said about coach Senol. As you see, success is coming but stability is important. We have been together for four years. We have always lived good days with our coach and we continue to do so,” Orman said when asked about Senol Gunes’ replacement.

After four years with Besiktas, Senol Gunes is set to depart the club at the end of the season and move on to manage Turkey where he is tasked with qualifying for EURO 2020.
