Besiktas appoint former midfielder Sergen Yalcin as manager

The Black Eagles have chosen former midfielder and club legend Sergen Yalcin to take the reins at Vodafone Park.

Besiktas football club have found their new manager after a short search following the sacking of their previous coach, Abdullah Avci. The Istanbul club have officially agreed terms with Sergen Yalcin as of today.

The 47-year-old was initially offered a short-term deal until the end of the season but after negotiations both parties have come to an agreement.

Yalcin has agreed to a one-and-a-half year contract which means he will tied to the club until May 31, 2021.

The club will hold a signing ceremony for their new man at Vodafone Park on Thursday evening.

He will be paid 2 million Turkish Lira (TL) until the end of the current season whereas for the 2020-2021 campaign he will earn 6 million TL.

In comparison, his predecessor, Abdullah Avci, earned 12 million TL per year.

Yalcin has quickly taken to his new role and oversaw his first training session with team on Wednesday morning in Istanbul.

The Turkish coach is a well-known figure at Besiktas having played 10 season for the club during which he was known for his goal-scoring abilities.

Yalcin was one of the most talented attacking midfielders of his generation during his time with the Istanbul club.

Until today, the Istanbul native was unemployed following his dismissal from Super Lig outfit Yeni Malatyaspor nearly two weeks ago.
