Emre Belozoglu wants to retire with Fenerbahce

The veteran midfielder wants his final playing days to be with the Yellow Canaries.

Turkish veteran midfielder Emre Belozoglu wishes to retire while donning the Fenerbahce uniform, according to the player himself and Istanbul Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag.

The 38-year-old midfielder, who lists Galatasaray, Inter Milan, Newcastle United and Atletico Madrid as some of his previous clubs, is a big fan of the Yellow Canaries with whom he had to stints; from 2008 to 2012 and 2013 to 2015.

Speaking to reporters after Istanbul Basaksehir’s draw against Alanyaspor on Friday, Gumusdag said the club have allowed him to move to Fenerbahce despite their continued interest in the player.

“Emre Belozoglu became a symbol of Basaksehir. I met with him and told him I want him to stay with us for one more year but he said ‘if you’ll allow me, I want to retire with Fenerbahce’. So, I gave him permission. Fenerbahce is Emre’s nest,” Basaksehir’s president Gumusdag told reporters on Friday.

According to reports in Turkey, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc is also keen on bringing Emre back to Kadikoy and a one-year deal is said to be in the works.
