Mathieu Valbuena joins Olympiakos

The French midfielder has joined Greek powerhouse Olympiakos.

Attacking midfielder Mathieu Valbuena has joined Olympiakos from Fenerbahce on a free transfer. The Greek club confirmed the transfer on Monday via their social media accounts.

One of the messages shared by the club read;

“Valbuena, now a member of the Olympiakos family.”

The 34-year-old spoke briefly after signing his contract which will see him earn an annual salary of €1.8 million per year — double the amount of the club’s highest-paid earner Fortounis, who makes €800,000 per year.

“I am very happy to have come to Greece’s biggest club and I feel very proud,” Valbuena told reporters.

Since joining Fenerbahce in 2017, the former Marseille midfielder made a total of 71 appearances for the Yellow Canaries during which he scored 12 goals and made 24 assists.
