John Obi Mikel joins Trabzonspor

The Nigerian international is the 130th foreign player to join the Turkish club in their 52-year history.

Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel has joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer, the Turkish club confirmed on Monday.

The 32-year-old becomes the third Nigerian footballer in the club’s squad, joining his compatriots Ogenyi Onazi and Anthony Nwakaeme.

The former Chelsea midfielder has signed a two-year contract with Trabzonspor. The deal includes an optional one-year extension.

Mikel’s last club was English Championship side Middlesbrough where he made 19 appearances for the club during which he scored one goal.
