Galatasaray re-sign Henry Onyekuru on loan

The Lions have added pacey winger Henry Onyekuru to their squad until the end of the season.

Turkish football powerhouse Galatasaray have announced on Sunday the transfer of AS Monaco winger Henry Onyekuru.

According to the information released by the club on Istanbul’s Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the Turkish club will pay AS Monaco a loan fee of €750,000.

The Nigerian international, who has been assigned the number 70, will receive €650,000 in wages from Galatasaray during his six-month stay with the Istanbul club.

This will be the second time the 22-year-old signs for Galatasaray with his first stint being during the 2018-2019 season. Onyekuru was also on loan with Galatasaray then from English Premier League’s Everton FC.

When asked by reporters how he felt about returning to Galatasaray, the talented winger said he was “happy to return home.”

“I am very happy to return home. This is my home. I hope we will be champions. I am very happy and excited to be here,” he said.

His performances while on loan at Galatasaray earned him a big money move to AS Monaco who snapped him up for a fee reported to be in the region of €15 million. However, he has found himself overlooked at the Ligue 1 club this season with just 4 appearances to his name.

Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim also confirmed the transfer of full-back Marcelo Saracchi who is expected to arrive on January 6.

Terim also revealed that striker Mbaye Diagne, currently on loan with Club Brugge, will return to the team. He also said midfielder Steve NZonzi will leave the club due to disciplinary reasons.

Another player who is widely expected to be headed for the exit door is Mariano. The Brazilian player’s agent is scheduled for talks with the club’s management regarding possible contract termination or transfer away from the club.
