The Black Eagles will recruit young talent — male and female — from the Netherlands thanks to their new partnership with Fortuna Sittard.
Turkish football giants Besiktas have signed a scouting partnership with Dutch football club Fortuna Sittard, the Istanbul club announced on Thursday.
As part of the cooperation between the two clubs, the Eredivisie club will be responsible for setting up a tryout and recruitment camp for Besiktas in the Limburg area of the Netherlands, an are where close to 2 million Turkish immigrants live.
The recruiters will evaluate male talent between the ages of 14 and 17 and females between the ages of 16 and 19 within a 100-square-kilometer radius. Applications will be accepted from January 20 until March 15, 2020.
The trials will be held at Fortuna Sittard’s facilities between April 10 and 12, 2020.
Besiktas official Firat Fidan, who is the director responsible for the club’s youth training, said the club are committed to developing youth players and this new deal exemplifies the significance and commitment of the the administration’s intentions with regards to their youth academy.
Fidan said the club’s management wants to turn Besiktas into a breeding ground for promising young athletes.
“The deal we have made with Fortuna Sittard plays a vital role in our youth academy plans. It will allow us to sign promising youngsters living in Europe to our club,” Fidan told reporters in Istanbul during the official signing ceremony on Thursday.
Fortuna Sittard president Isitan Gun said he fully endorses the partnership and believes both clubs have a lot to offer one another.
In July of 2016, Gun purchased 85% of the shares of Fortuna sittard making him the owner and majority shareholder of the football club.
