Trabzonspor forgot to win with Calimbay

Trabzonspor Riza Calimbay can't win

The Black Sea Storm are in a crisis and Riza Calimbay cannot seem to find a solution.

Riza Calimbay’s team is in deep trouble as they continue to slide down the table. During every press conference, the manager speaks of “transfers” however the statistics overshadow any rhetoric; no wins in the past six league games. In other words, the club have not won a single game so far this year.

For the first time since season 2011/12, they haven’t won in eight consecutive games (including the Turkish Cup). In addition to their winless streak, the team hasn’t found the back of the net in three games.

Considered the 4th biggest club in Turkey, they are failing to live up to the standards set by management and supporters. The last time they finished in the top four was back in 2014/15. After 22 weeks of games, the club are sitting in 7th place, 8 points behind 5th placed Besiktas. Qualification for a European competition has always been a desire of Trabzonspor’s management however considering the team’s terrible form, having been knocked out of the Turkish Cup and this far behind from 5th place (the last league position which allows for a Europa League qualifying-round entry), it seems like mission impossible.

The club are going through a turbulent time and how much longer the current management will tolerate Calimbay’s sub-par results is anyone’s guess. However, after yesterday’s report of fans and club directors seen arguing in the stands after the Basaksehir match, it is evident a change is needed.
