Senol Gunes: ‘We’re the best team in Turkey’

Senol Gunes says Besiktas are the best team in Turkey after coming back from a goal down to defeat Fenerbahce 3-1 tonight.

Besiktas manager Senol Gunes spoke candidly after he watched his team come back from behind to win the heated derby tonight.

During the regular post-match conference the Turkish manager was direct with his answers and made sure he acknowledged the high level of performances his team has put in this season;

“Others have said it and I’ve also said it; we are the best team in Turkey. We needed to prove that to the doubters and tonight we did that. Our opponents were tough, discplined. To come back from 1-0 and win was crucial. Our supporters played a role in this comeback and I want to thank them for this.”

“We will meet again the Turkish Cup. We’re in a tight calendar. But we must play these games. After three days, we have Fenerbahce again and after a month and a half, there’s the second leg (of the Turkish Cup). We want to be the winner of all those games.”

After being asked about the title race in the Turkish Super Lig, he made the team’s intentions clear;

“After winning defeating Fenerbahce tonight, we are 3rd in the league. Now, ahead of us, we have Basaksehir and Galatasaray. We want to catch up to them.”

Having won the vital three points tonight against their fierce rivals, the Black Eagles are in 3rd place, tied with Fenerbahce on 44 points however they remain ahead via the head-to-head advantage.
