Josef: ‘Turkey’s biggest derby is…’

Josef De Souza says the biggest derby in Turkey is Fenerbahce-Galatasaray

Fenerbahce’s midfielder Josef De Souza and defender Martin Skrtel attended a press conference ahead of the eternal Istanbul derby which is set to take place this Saturday, March 17 2018.

Fenerbahce’s Brazilian midfielder Josef De Souza and Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel spoke about the upcoming Fenerbahce-Galatasaray derby during a press conference today.

Skrtel, acknowledging that it would be a difficult match, had the following to say;

“We are going to be playing a derby and derbies are always special matches. To win, again, we will do whatever it takes. Motivation doesn’t come from our opponents, it comes from knowing you are playing for a big club like Fenerbahce. On the pitch, there will be a group of players who want to do better than the opponents. We are preparing well for the match as a team and I can guarantee you that on that day, those that are on the field will give it their all to win that derby. There hasn’t been a loss in 19 years, and on Saturday, this streak will continue.”

Josef, on the other hand, made it clear that this is Turkey’s biggest derby;

“It’s a match which every football player enjoys playing in. On Saturday, the biggest derby in Turkey will take place. We want to win and will do whatever we can to do so, and at the same time continue to fight for the Turkish Super Lig title. We want the fans that come to watch us on Saturday to go home happy. The most key battles will take place in the middle of the pitch. I always have a special focus during the derbies and so far we have been successful in all of the derbies I’ve played in. I hope this will continue.”

The Fenerbahce-Galatasaray derby is the most heated derby of all in Turkey, and one of the most watched derbies in the entire football world. The match is set to take place this Saturday, March 17, at Ulker Stadium, Fenerbahce’s home ground, where Fenerbahce haven’t lost against Galatasaray for the last 19 years.

Will the home-side’s streak continue? We’ll find out this Saturday.
