Besiktas doing their best to keep Ozyakup

Besiktas offer Ozyakup new deal

Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup is a free agent this summer however the Black Eagles are doing their best to tie the player to a new deal in order to avoid losing him.

According to CNN Turk, Besiktas are offering midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup a new contract worth €2.5 million-a-year amid interest from Everton and Newcastle United.

Ozyakup, 25, spent time in the Arsenal ranks before heading to Turkey with Besiktas in 2012, having made just two first-team appearances for the Gunners.

Since signing for Besiktas, Ozyakup has starred with 27 goals and 48 assists in 207 games for the club, whilst he has also become a regular for the Turkish national team.

Ozyakup is a key player for Besiktas, but they face losing him this summer, as his contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he can move on for free.

Reports have surfaced claiming Newcastle United are ready to rival Everton for Ozyakup’s signature on a free transfer this summer, but Besiktas aren’t ready to give up just yet.

In addition to the lucrative wages offered, Besiktas are offering a signing-on fee of more than €2 million in an attempt to secure his future.

The report also carries quotes from agent Kees Vos, who admitted that the next two weeks will be key to Ozyakup’s future, as he talked up Everton’s interest alongside Lazio, Marseille, Milan and Valencia.

A return to England may be appealing given that he still has something of a point to prove in the Premier League, and both Everton and Newcastle may be able to beat that £42,000-a-week offer.
