Besiktas president: “We can win Europa League”

Black Eagles president Fikret Orman said their goal is to reach the Europa League final.

Besiktas president Fikret Orman spoke of the club ambition to reach the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Orman explained his club’s sadness at missing out on the prestigious Champions League however they have set their sight on next season’s objective.

“We are sad that we won’t be participating in next season’s Champions League. Now, there is Europe League ahead of us. We’ll start the season early because of that. We must get through the qualification stages to advance to the group stage. After that, our hope is reaching the final,” said the president.

He went on to state that he believes the team can lift the Europe League trophy.

“The Champions League put things in perspective for us. The clubs have enormous budgets. Because of that, we should look at things realistically. We can win the Europe League. When you look at the teams that have won it, we don’t have any shortcomings. In fact, we have more. Our brand is seen worldwide. The Europa League final will be played in Baku and so our objective is to reach Baku. It would be very significant to lift the trophy in Azerbaijan. We want to achieve that.”

Besiktas finished fourth last season which means they will enter the Europa League in the Second Qualifying Round.

The first legs will be played on July 26th and the second legs will be played on August 2nd 2018.
