The Dutch coach has agreed to a three-year contract with the Istanbul club.

Super Lig giants Fenerbahce have appointed Phillip Cocu as their new manager, the club announced today.

After weeks of speculation, the news has been finally confirmed to the delight of the club’s fans. His annual salary is reported to be €2.5 million, about 5 times more than what he was earning at his previous club.

Cocu, previously in charge of PSV Eindhoven where he won 4 titles in 5 years, will replace the recently sacked Aykut Kocaman.

The new manager stated his thoughts on the club’s official website;

“I must say that I am very impressed by the plans the club has for the near future. Fenerbahçe is a great club and the ideas and vision that Ali Koç and Damien Comolli both explained to me are very promising. I am proud to be part of this very important organisation. I am looking forward to work with the players and to lead the team in front of our fans at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. I can’t wait to start this journey.”

The talented coach was wished well by his former club PSV Eindhoven as well as FC Barcelona through their Twitter accounts.

The 47-year-old’s first day at work will be on June 28th at Samandira Can Bartu Facility where his new team will begin their pre-season training camp.
