Besiktas win, Basaksehir draw in Europa League

The Black Eagles faced little trouble as they dominated the duel even though they managed to score just once.

Super Lig giants Besiktas toppled LASK Linz of Austria 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie in Istanbul late Thursday evening.

In the sixth minute of the match at Vodafone Park, Besiktas’ left winger Ryan Babel scored with a header near the far post. Turkish midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup made the assist.

Babel’s goal was enough for Besiktas as the Austrian side were on the backfoot for most of the game. The Black Eagles had 68% of ball possession and 13 shots in total.

The second leg is set for Thursday, August 16 in Linz, Austria.

Meanwhile, the other Turkish team playing in the same qualifying round, Istanbul Basaksehir, drew 0-0 against English club Burnley in Istanbul.

Their second leg will also be played next Thursday, in England.
