Galatasaray fail to break curse against FB, last win in December 1999

The Intercontinental derby ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Super Lig defending champions Galatasaray continue their barren run at Ulker Stadium where they have not won since December 1999.

Sunday evening’s league clash between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray resulted in a 1-1 draw that Galatasaray fail to make their numerical advantage count against their bitter rivals.

Fenerbahce full-back Hasan Ali Kaldirim received a direct red card in the 44th minute for denying Galatasaray a clear goalscoring opportunity after he tripped striker Mbaye Diagne, who burst clear of his marker only to be tripped.

Galatasaray took the lead in the 66th minute when Henry Onyekuru headed the ball into the back of the net.

However, The Lions failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage.

Fenerbahce equalized just five minutes later in the 71st minute through attacking midfielder Eljif Elmas.

The draw sees Galatasaray’s poor record at Fenerbahce’s home ground continue. Cim Bom are yet to taste victory at Ulker Stadium, with their last win going back to December 1999.

Galatasaray remain in second place with 56 points while Fenerbahce linger in 14th with 33 points, barely outside the relegation zone.
