Malatyaspor manager resigns

Erol Bulut has walked away from the Super Lig club.

Malatyaspor are left looking for a new manager with just 4 weeks left until the end of the season after coach Erol Bulut officially resigned on Friday.

After watching their team get dismantled 5-2 in the Turkish Cup semi-final on Thursday, club supporters called for a new coach to be appointed.

While the club were one of the breakout teams in the first half of the season with their attacking style of football, they have been a different team since the beginning of the year, not winning a single game in their last 6 outings.

Their elimination from the Turkish Cup is reported to have been the final straw for the club’s board of directors who felt they need a change in direction.

Bulut is reported to have met with the club’s administration after Thursday evening’s heavy loss and was given the option to resign in order to avoid embarrassment.

The club’s Sporting Director Ali Ravci released a statement on Friday confirming Bulut’s departure.

“After yesterday’s game against Galatasaray, we have reached a mutual agreement to part ways with our coach following the meeting with our administration. The decision hurts us all. We achieved great success with coach Erol, we had good days. But there are always separations in football. We thank him for his hard work at our club. Hopefully, this decision will be beneficial for both sides,” the statement read.

Ravci also added that Erol Bulut’s assistants will prepare the team for their upcoming fixture against Kasimpasa.
