Japanese fans 'invade' Istanbul for GS-BJK derby

Hundreds of fans from the Far East nation made their way to Istanbul to witness the duel between Galatasaray and Besiktas.

The Galatasaray-Besiktas derby has attracted interest from all across the globe including fans all the way from Japan.

Hundreds of Japanese fans purchased Passolig cards and tickets to the recent Galatasaray-Besiktas derby, hoping to catch a glimpse of their national team stars, Yuto Nagatomo of Galatasaray and Shinji Kagawa of Besiktas.

Among the fans were also Japanese journalists who covered the game, which ended with Galatasaray emerging victorious on Sunday evening.

The derby set a new record for Galatasaray with 51,578 fans in attendance — the highest attendance level Turk Telekom Arena has ever seen.
