G.saray midfielder Emre Akbaba suffers broken leg

The Turkish midfielder was stretchered off after breaking his leg due to a nasty tackle.

Galatasaray midfielder Emre Akbaba has suffered a broken leg during Saturday evening’s Super Lig clash between Caykur Rizespor and Galatasaray in Rize which ended in a 3-2 victory for The Lions.

During the heated duel between the two sides, Akbaba was tackled from behind by Rizespor’s Braian Samudio in the in the 61st minute of the second half which led to the horrific injury.

After watching the replay footage thanks to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, referee Serkan Cinar sent off Samudio with a red card.

Akbaba was attended to on the field by the club’s medical staff, who quickly called for an ambulance to arrive. The 26-year-old was taken to a local hospital for further examination.

According to the statement released by Galatasaray, Emre has suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his right leg.

The Turkish midfielder will go under the knife Sunday morning at Medical Park hospital, one of the club’s sponsors.

This is not the first time the midfielder has suffered a broken limb, unfortunately.

The talented player suffered a broken metatarsal in the 7th week of the season against Erzurumspor which lead to him being sidelined for four-and-a-half months.

He had recently returned from the lengthy layoff in January.
