Mbaye Diagne breaks league goal record

The Senegal international has become the all-time top foreign goalscorer in Turkish football.

Galatasaray striker Mbaye Diagne has left his mark on Turkish football with his latest two goals against Caykur Rizespor on Saturday evening. The Senegal hotshot has become the highest goal-scoring foreign player ever in the Turkish Super Lig.

During the controversial Super Lig clash between Caykur Rizespor and Galatasaray, the 27-year-old scored twice to gives his team a 3-2 win as they march towards the league title.

Despite missing a penalty in the first half, Diagne took another spot kick in the 92nd minute of injury time but this time he did not miss.

With the score tied at 2-2, the tall striker found the back of the net in the 97th minute to give Galatasaray the win and score his 30th league goal of the season.

His second goal of the game sees Diagne overtake the previous record holder, former Galatasaray hitman Bafetimbi Gomis who scored 29 league goals last season.

The Senegalese star joined Galatasaray on the final day of the winter transfer window in January for €10 million from city rivals Kasimpasa, although that figure could rise to about €13 million if the club win the league title and the player is crowned the top goalscorer come the end of the season.
