Yeni Malatyaspor advance in Europa League qualifers

The Turkish football club eliminated their opponents Olimpija Ljubljana on Thursday to advance to the Third Qualifying Round.

Super Lig minnows Yeni Malatyaspor defeated their Slovenian opponents Olimpija Ljubljana 3-2 on aggregate after a 1-0 away on Thursday in their Europa League second qualifying round duel.

The Turkish club drew 2-2 against their opponents at home in the first leg in Malatya last week.

On Thursday, the club pulled off a remarkable 1-0 win away to seal their win and move on to the Third Qualifying Round in the 2019-2020 Europa League.

Malatyaspor went ahead thanks to their striker Adis Jahovic in the 77th minute which brought the historic win for the Turkish club.

The clash between the two clubs did not go without a hitch, however. Yeni Malatyaspor’s goalkeeper Fabien Farnolle was subjected to racist insults and chants from the Slovenian club’s fans.

The 34-year-old spoke to Turkish media on Friday and told reporters that some of the club’s fans made monkey sounds which were directed at him.

“They made monkey-like sounds during the 45 minutes of the game,” the Beninese goalkeeper said.

“They threw something at me but it does not matter. But I believe making monkey sounds is shameful,” he explained.

The team is scheduled to face Serbian outfit Partizan in the Third Qualifying Round later this month.
