Chelsea coach Eddie Newton agrees deal with Trabzonspor

The Black Sea Storm have reached a deal with Chelsea coach Eddie Newton to become the club’s assistant manager.

Trabzonspor continue to overhaul their club with signings and their latest addition is in the form of a backroom staff member. The Turkish football club have reached an agreement with Chelsea coach Eddie Newton.

The 48-year-old will swap Chelsea, where he assisted the club’s manager Frank Lampard, and become Trabzonspor manager Huseyin Cimsir’s assistant coach.

Trabzonspor club president Ahmet Agaoglu hinted at a possible new addition to their staff last week when he revealed the club’s plans to bring in a foreign coach to assist their manager.

Newton is expected to travel to Trabzon this week to meet the Trabzonspor officials and finalize his transfer to the Super Lig club.

The English coach is not a stranger to Turkey, however, as he is married to a Turkish national, Zeliha Newton.

Newton will be re-uniting with two of his former players — John Obi Mikel and Daniel Sturridge — both of whom are former Chelsea players and have worked with Newton.

Current assistant manager Muzaffer Bilazer will remain as the Cimsir’s assistant alongside Newton.

After sacking Unal Karaman earlier this month, Trabzonspor hired Huseyin Cimsir as their new manager.

Cimsir inked a one-and-a-half year deal with the club and will earn 250,000 Turkish Lira (TL) for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season.

However, his salary for the 2020-2021 campaign will be 3.5 million TL.
